PACKING FOR BALI

I am not going to lie to you, the first time I travelled to Bali I think I packed jeans…

I had never been to Indonesia before – or anywhere even close, and I personally don’t think I had ever felt true humidity before. Clearly I had no idea what to bring with me.

This trip, I am not making those mistakes again. I had done my research and am 90% sure I will need/use everything in my suitcase – I hope.

Loose Linen Shirts

I have decided to take a couple of these, they are great to throw on over your bikini and the sleeves are super easy to roll up when your shirt is oversized. I will pack a chambray Neuw Denim and a white one.

Shorts – Denim, Linen etc.

I am more of a shorts person than a dress person – always have been. I have packed my trusty Levi’s, frayed Bassike shorts and may also chuck in a white linen pair.

Midi Skirt.

I just got a loose, silk midi shirt from The Fifth Label. I think it will be perfect for Bali and will look super chic thrown over my black Bandeau one-piece.

Bathers.

I love a good one-piece, I finally found the one I had been searching for forever – Mr Zimi pulled in the goods with a simple, black Bandeau one-piece. I will also pack a new bikini I got from Cotton On Body – khaki with white stitching. No doubt I will probably also bring my entire bikini collection.

Sheer Culotte Jumpsuit.

This jumpsuit I picked up recently from Ruby See’s All, perfect for sunset dinner and drinks!

Sandals and Slides.

Flat shoes are a must. I will be taking these new white leather slides from Rubi Shoes (love the eyelet detail), my leather Ancient Greek Sandals and a pair of plain black slides. Plus some sneakers.

T-shirts and T-shirt Dresses.

Easy to throw on after a swim or out at night with come cute sandals and some jewellery.

Last week I was lucky enough to stay at the Sydney Harbour Marriott (my home away from home when I am in Sydney) while I was in town for an event.

I was treated to the Opera View suite, I have stayed in this room once before and each time the view takes my breath away!

The five-star hotel is situated in Circular Quay, it’s walking distance to Pitt St Mall and the staff are always so welcoming and accomodation.

Already looking forward to my next visit!

Last Saturday I braved the chilly Melbourne weather and headed off to Flemington Racecourse to celebrate the start of the Spring Racing Season. I attended the Yellowglen Terrace at Sofitel Ladies Day.

My accessories for the day (which we all know is a big part of your races outfit!) were from Colette Hayman.

I decided on their leaf and flower headband, which completed my outfit of black and gold perfectly.

I finished off the look with some simple and classic fine gold rings and a chic quilted black bag – which surprisingly fit all my races essentials, plus a camera!

Five Minute Makeup Look with Mecca

Step One

Let’s prime. Primer acts as a base that you apply before your foundation. Not only does it create a barrier for your skin, preventing your makeup from clogging your pores but it also helps your makeup stay put and on all day. I apply about a 5 cent piece to the back of my hand (a little bit goes a long way) and then apply directly to my face with my foundation brush.

Step Two

Foundation. I have been using Nars Sheer Glow Foundation for years. It a great base that you can easily build from low to full coverage. It gives you a great glow and the bottle lasts me for around 4 months! I apply about a 10 cent piece amount to the back on my hand and using the same foundation brush that you applied your primer with, gradually apply to the face. I also add just a little concealer to under my eyes.

Step Three

I recenly started using the Nars Highlighting Blush – I am a sucker for anything that has a two-in-one feature. This particular Blush includes a light-reflecting highligher that looks amazing on the skin. Grab your blush brush and apply to the apples of your cheeks.

Optional Step Four

For this particular look – I want a serious glow going on. The Mecca Illuminating balm is new product I am trying. It’s super easy to use and a little bit goes a long way. I apply with my finger to all the points of my face where light usually hits – between the eyes, down the bridge of the nose just above the lip and in the middle of your chin.

Step Five

I like a natural eye so I usually just apply a sweep of mascara and a tinted brow gel.

And, voila!

Earlier this week I visited the new Pacific Werribee, (it’s actually only 29 kilometres from Melbourne CBD), the new go-to fashion destination of the west which has just finished its $400 million redevelopment.

Those who live over in the west (myself included) now have access to a pretty impressive line-up of global and leading Australian fashion brands such as H&M, Uniqlo and an expanded Myer (which includes TopShop). The new Centre even includes Seed Heritage, Sportsgirl, Peter Alexander and a Mecca Maxima which is opening on the 9th of September.

Pacific Werribee is filled with natural light, marble floors and polished concrete. A little highlight for me was also the new relaxed seating areas that are equipped with their very own usb ports – the perfect finishing touch.

Morning dressing, made easier.

How I prep my wardrobe for the week ahead.

Firstly, you will probably notice that their isn’t much on this rack. That’s because this rack is my ‘secondary wardrobe‘. Think of it as a curated version of my entire wardrobe, that gets updated weekly.

If I am having a relatively slow week, not to much on – mainly working from home, a coffee date here or there, I will pull out lots of denim and t-shirts, a couple of sweaters, a casual trench. Even Nike leggings. Plus LOTS of sneakers.

If I have a busy week with a couple of events to go to, and I know I am going to be out of the house quite abit, I prep my wardrobe with fail-safe outfit choices – Plain tops, a few different blazers, some leather/suede pants, a statement coat. The shoes that get pulled for the week are a pair of nice flats, heeled boots and once again, sneakers never fail.

I always have a couple of accessories out – neck ties are a quick and easy way to look chic. And I am a sucker for anything with gold hardware – my Dylan Kain bag definitely gets a work-out most weeks.

  …

I find that updating my rack according to my weekly schedule – helps me always get out the door on time.

The Skincare Edit

Products I am currently using, and loving.

My skin has always been a little bit of an issue for me. Growing up I actually didn’t have many problems with it, but as I started approaching my twenties – that all went out the window. Since I was about 19 I have suffered – from what I would call, mild acne. I honestly cannot recall a time over those years where I didn’t have (at least afew breakouts) happening at once.

It wasn’t a big enough deal for me to seek professional help, but it was a big enough deal that I didn’t feel comfortable leaving the house without makeup – and that is no way to live.

Fast forward seven years (wow, seven years), I am now 26 years old and can quite clearly say that I had tired everything possible to clear my skin up. You name it, I’ve tried it.

It got to the point where I wanted a therapist – for my skin.

I hated going to different salons, spa etc and having a different therapist each time. I never really felt like they cared about me, or my skin.

I reached out to Gry at Hud Skin and Body about 4 months ago, I had heard great reviews – plus, her spa is a Scandinavian interior dream. Not joking.

Since getting regular Enzyme Therapy, 1 courses of skin needling sessions and using their DMK home care religiously, my skin is the best it has been since I was a teenager. I am writing this post without a simple breakout on my face and the clearest, most even skin I have had in a decade.

..

At home I am using the following products (all DMK)  –

Deep Pore Facial Cleanser, Beta Gel, Vitamin C Serum, Betagen and the Revise A cream, Seba – E Hydrating Oil, Pore Reduction Tonic and Herb and Mineral Moisture Spray.

All products available to shop from Hud Skin and Body.
